HCG Bulletin December 2017 Editorial

hhhhhhh And in the twinkling of an eye, yet another year has almost come to an end. As 2017 wings its way out, it’s time to introspect and reflect on all that’s happened this year. Each of us has accomplished a lot in our journey of personal and professional growth. There’s so much to be grateful for! Some of us have reached career milestones; others have triumphed and achieved difficult goals. We may have made mistakes, but we have surely learnt from them. As a family, HCG has grown and we’ve reached splendid new heights together. Time to give ourselves a pat on the back and make sure that the year to come is even better and brighter!

December 2017 Milestones:

  1.  Bijo Kunnumpurath, Managing Director and Mr. Saji Kunnumpurath visited HCI on 05/12/2017 and they shared their viewpoint with the staff.
  2.  Annual meeting was held on 05/12/2017 at Olive DownTown, Kadavanthara for all the staff of the MWT family, which was organized by Mr. Bijo Kunnumpurath to share his plans for the future years.
  3.  There was a Surprise NSDC Inspection on 22-12-2017 at HCI, Kochi.
  4.   On the 21st December 2017, Christmas was celebrated by exchanging gifts, singing of carols and self-preparation of food within the office premises.

5. The AHA team attended a national Level Conference on Emergency Medicine on 18th and 19th December 2017 at M.O.S.C Medical College Hospital, Kolenchery and the marketing team put up a stall to promote NCAP and OET.

6. Clinical Training at Lakshmi Hospital was started for GDA Batch -2 students on 19-12-2017.

7. A farewell event for General Duty Assistant (GDA) Batch-2 students was conducted on 19-12-2017.

8. The AHA team provided BLS training for 65 students and ELS training for 19 students on 8th and 10th December 2017 at Mar Baselious Dental college Kothamangalam.


hci119. A SAP (Additional Skill Acquisition Programme) final assessment was conducted on 3 December 2017 at SDC (Skill Development Centre) -GHSS Chandiroor for Home Health Aide (HHA) course for 25 students.

10. We are happy to congratulate our OET students, Ms. Ponnamabili Renjith, Ms. Jessy Oommen, Ms. Mekha Sharu Jacob, Ms. Rosmin Kurain and Ms. Anu Pious for clearing their exam with ‘B’ grades.

11. An in-service education was conducted on the topic “Hypersensitivity”. The session was taken by Mrs. Anjusha Ann Thomas on 1st December 2017.

12. Maria Augustine and Ms. Eva K Afage have joined our institute this month and we heartily welcome them to the HCI family.

Good News for Foreign Nurses who want to Work In Ireland!

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) has announced that they will also accept Occupational English Test (OET) as proof of language proficiency starting January 2, 2018. This follows in the steps of the United Kingdom’s decision to accept OET results as an alternative for International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration starting November 1, 2017.

Previously, NMBI accepted only IELTS Academic and IELTS Academic for UKVI as evidence of English language competency for overseas nurses trained outside EU or EEA countries, (or what they call Group 3). NMBI will accept the following scores on the OET from 2 January 2018 as part of the application process for Non-EU applicants ONLY:

  • At least a Grade C+ in  Listening and Reading
  • At least a Grade B in Writing and Speaking

  1. Relieves Fatigue: Fatigue is one of the first signs of dehydration.   5. Relieves Hangover: Drinking water works as a simple yet effective way to get rid of hangover as well. Being a diuretic, alcohol causes you to pee much more than you take in. Thus, water helps rehydrate the body and speed up recovery. Experts recommend drinking 16 to 20 ounces of water at night before going to bed after you have had too much alcohol.
  6. Beats Bad Breath: Bad breath is a clear sign that you may not be drinking sufficient water. It keeps your mouth moist and washes away food particles and bacteria. It also dilutes the smelly compounds that oral bacteria create.

So, drink sufficient water and also rinse your mouth with water, especially after having a meal or snack to control odors and remove bacteria and food debris stuck between your teeth and gum line.
