HOT TIPS TO STAY COOL!

As summer sets in and the heat rises,  we bring you some hot tips that can help you keep your cool this summer!

Eat wise!

Eat small meals, more frequently. Larger meals create more metabolic heat. Again, cut down on fatty and fried foods which have a thermal effect. Buttermilk and fresh fruit juices are great pick-me-up drinks to keep handy.

Keep the curtains drawn when you are out!

This keeps the inside of the house cool, so it isn’t steaming hot when you come back home.

Wear white cotton clothes

Lightweight white cotton clothes are your best bet for the summer. Light colours do not absorb radiant heat. Synthetics are a no, as they trap heat and don’t allow you to sweat.

Drink up!

Drink a lot of water and stay hydrated. Water cools the body from the inside out. Avoid caffeinated drinks as they act as diuretics, draining the water content of your body. Avoid alcohol. It’s not good for you in any season, and certainly not in the summer.

Bathing helps!

A tepid bath in lukewarm water keeps you cool. Bathing just before bedtime gives you a sweat-free night.

Avoid strenuous physical activity

Any strenuous exercise increases the body’s core temperature. If you cant do without your daily jog, make sure you finish it before the sun is up.
