Updates on Decision Letters from AHPRA

As you all know, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) has not been sending out Eligibility letters to applicants since October 8, 2013. In June, after a long hiatus, Australian and Filipino candidates have received their Decision letters, and next in line will be applicants from India.

Under the new model of evaluation, international qualifications will now be assessed against eight criteria to be eligible for registration. Different documentation is required to assess qualifications as a registered nurse, a midwife and an enrolled nurse. In order for AHPRA to assess your qualifications against these eight criteria, you need to submit various supporting documents with your application. Each application will be evaluated on its own merit.

Candidates from some developed countries who were earlier eligible for direct registration must also now mandatorily finish the IRON program to get their nursing registration in Australia; however they may be exempted from writing the IELTS exam. Enquiries for IHNA’s IRON course are now increasing, and IHNA is now calling for applications for admission to their next IRON Program batch. This Registration Bridging program can be the start of a wonderfully fulfilling career in healthcare in Australia.
