HAPPINESS QUOTIENT AT WORK

Happiness is a choice- you can choose to see the cup half full, or you can go through life thinking it is half empty! Attitude counts a lot towards whether you are happy or not. You can choose to be happy at work, or you can choose to crib about every little situation that arises and make yourself very unhappy. Spend your time with coworkers you like, and stay miles away from those you don’t get along with.

Stay on top of your profession- take charge of your own growth, and continue to develop professionally. Set some goals for yourself and request help from your seniors, if you need it. You are the one who has the most to gain if you grow! Take professional development courses that interest you and personality improvement classes in areas you find yourself lacking in.

Keep your eyes and ears open. If you want to move up in your organization, you should know what is happening in other departments. Get to know what is happening with your company and your coworkers. And don’t hesitate to lend a helping hand wherever and whenever you can.

Avoid all negativity- that includes gossip, negative co workers and anything that pulls you down! All that negativity will have adverse effects on your psyche, and affect your performance- that’s something you don’t want. Put your heart and soul into your work, and be positive.

Don’t promise more than you can deliver. When assigned a particular task, always make sure you are able to complete it within the stipulated time. If you are swamped with work already, don’t volunteer to do it…or let the other person know that you have other pending jobs, so this one will take time.

Get organized and plan tasks. Prioritize. Make to-do lists….do whatever works for you, and keeps you functioning efficiently! Make a comprehensive plan and ask for help and resources if you need them. Keep your workspace organized and clean up your desk once in a while. Clutter on your desk never helps!

Take breaks once in a while….walk around, get a cup of coffee. This helps keep your focus and lightens your mood. The right kind of break boosts your retention levels. Remember to have meals on time. Don’t let yourself get too hungry….this is counterproductive and you get tired and unfocussed.

Make friends! Liking your coworkers can keep you happy and smiling, and charged up to go to work every day! Friends provide support and sharing and motivate you to do your work better. Friends really can make your world look better even when you’re stressed or over tired.

Try each of these tips, one day at a time. Trust us, they do work. After all, we spend too much time at work to not be happy.
