Save Lives with CPR!

A workshop on CPR Techniques was conducted at the Renai Medicity Hospital, Palarivattom on Thursday, the 9th of May 2013 between 2 and 5 PM. Twenty two hospital staff took part in the workshop where knowledge on both the theoretical and practical aspects of Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was imparted .

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is an emergency lifesaving procedure that is performed when a person’s own breathing or heartbeat have stopped. It uses a combination of chest compressions and rescue breathing. The chest compressions keep oxygenated blood circulating and the breathing provides oxygen to the lungs. CPR is used on people in cardiac arrest in order to oxygenate the blood and maintain a cardiac output to keep vital organs alive. Timing and techniques are of vital importance to keep the patient alive in the event of a heart attack.

The introduction about the IHM’s vision and mission in the health care industry was given by Mrs. Sini Kunnumpurath (Operations Manager), and the class was delivered by Mr. Baiju Azad(Nurse Educator), with support from Jobin M A(Nurse Educator) & Ann Mary George (Admission Consultant). After the theoretical session, students were divided into two groups and simulations based on real scenarios were given for real life learning experience.

The hospital staff who attended the class found it very informative, and said they had gained a lot of useful knowledge about CPR techniques and the practical session gave them hands-on experience in CPR.
