HCG Bulletin April 2017 Editorial

Warm greetings from the team at The MWT Bulletin yet again! We’re back with the summer edition of your news-and-views updates.

Let’s start with some exciting news. Health Careers Institute, Kochi has received the prestigious Silver Merit Award from the American Heart Association for the year 2015-2016. This is a special moment for us, as this well-deserved recognition reflects the endless hours of hard work put in by every member of the HCI team. Congratulations and here’s to higher accolades to come!

The Australian visa subclass 457 has been abolished, as many of you already know. We bring you a comprehensive overview of the reforms that are going to be put in place to better align the permitted occupation lists with the skill requirements of the country. Healthcare continues to be a top priority for the Australian government due to the massive skills shortage in this sector, and nurses are still highly in demand. Current 457-visa holders will also remain unaffected by these reforms. And of course, students are always warmly welcome in the country!

Recently, a 22 year old boy found his life so overwhelming that he jumped out of the window of a five star hotel in Mumbai. What made this incident even more disturbing was that he live-streamed his preparations for ‘getting to the other side’ on Facebook, in a bizarre tutorial on suicide. Mental health issues have been increasingly brought into the limelight by such sad events, and the theme for this year’s World Health Day campaign is depression. “Let’s talk” goes the call to action- and indeed, if we all open up our hearts to spread awareness of the well of loneliness caused by depression, and just be there for those among us who are suffering, countless lives can be saved. Let’s take care of each other, folks!

As we do every month, we faithfully record all the events and happenings across all our offices and bring you pictures.

This summer is a scorcher with temperatures touching record highs around the world! We advocate staying indoors as much as you can, while doing everything possible to keep yourselves cool and hydrated. While packaged juices are high on taste, there’s nothing to beat our traditional sambhaaram to beat the heat….spiced buttermilk with chillies, mint, ginger and salt. Drink up and chill.

If you have any thoughts to share, do write in to me at  usha@mwtedu.com. Till next time, then…adios!
